The K-12 Connections program at Minneapolis Community and Technical College helps high school students prepare for college and explore careers through the following programs:
Our Vision:
To collaborate with our public and charter school education partners to prepare all students to access college and acquire the necessary skills to be successful in career pathways of the future.
Our Mission:
Through collaboration with the Minneapolis public and charter schools, MCTC's K-12 Connections Department will train and educate students, teachers, counselors, administrators and parents on current labor market trends, college and career readiness standards, and life skills that promote college and career success. Through extensive reachback to middle schools, we will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students to explore high wage and high demand jobs of the future. In partnership with high schools, we will provide ongoing professional development for teachers and counselors regarding college readiness standards, opportunities for students to earn PSEO and concurrent college credits, early Accuplacer assessment, and summer college-readiness coursework through the Jump Start to College program..

What's new?The Department of K12 Connections was recognized in 2009 as an outstanding program throughout all of MnSCU. Congrats to the entire K12 team for their achievements.
Minneapolis Community and Technical College K-12 Department has partnered with Minneapolis Pubic Schools and Achieve Minneapolis to increase the rates of college readiness for recent high school graduates through the College Readiness Initiative, involving early Accuplacer assessment of students while they are still in high school and facilitating ongoing faculty exchanges between high school and college instructors in content areas. They have also successfully piloted the Jump Start to College Program which allows high students who have not met readiness benchmarks the opportunity to take pre-college curriculum in reading, writing and math while in high school articulating the curriculum for high school graduation standards-eliminating the need for developmental courses upon graduation. Additionally they have opened access to college through concurrent enrollment of the Health Careers Program and partnered with multiple entities to expand the Power of You program to reach students who initially thought college was out of reach.
